Jakarta. Indonesia will
sign purchasing contract of 10 Sukhoi SU-35 fighter jets next month in Russia
as a replacement for the Air Force's F-5 Tiger squadron.
Sukhoi beat
rivals like Eurofighter, whose primary users are the Spanish, German, British
and Italian air forces, Sweden’s Gripen aircraft for the replacement contract.
Indonesia
has increased defense spending over the past three years in an attempt to
regenerate its aging military arsenal.
The current
F5 squadron of 16 fighter jets first came in operation in 1980.
