6 killed, 11 injured in Thailand's restive south


 


A total of six people were killed and 11 others injured in explosions and an arson attack from Friday night to Saturday morning in three provinces of southern Thailand.

     Although details are unclear, authorities said the incidents could be terror attacks by Muslim militants fighting for independence.

     A motorcycle bomb exploded outside a karaoke bar in Songkhla Province, killing three people, according to the reports. In addition, three people died in a fire at an automotive parts store near a market in Narathiwat Province.

     Besides explosions at a total of eight locations in three provinces also including Yala Province, there was also an incident in which firecrackers were thrown into a restaurant, according to the reports.

     Since the insurgency broke out in 2004, nearly 6,000 people have been killed in the southernmost provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, and four districts of Songkhla Province. Kyodo.
