Latest BALI Updates
Om Swastiastu ...
Leading the news this week are reports of two deaths in Bali: A long-time resident of Bali who was a successful 60-year-old expatriate businessman has been murdered, supposedly on the orders of his angry wife. Meanwhile, in Kuta, a 56-year-old Melbourne man has died while surfing.
In other news: The Governor has called on Bank Indonesia to close down hundreds of illegal moneychangers. A convicted Australian pedophile has been deported back to Melbourne after spending 6-years in a North Bali prison. The CEO of the Hotel Bali Kuta Residence is in police custody and expected to be charged with property fraud. And, a woman has been placed in the isolation ward at Sanglah’s General Hospital suspected to be suffering from the MERS-CoV Virus.
Other articles warn of an impending fuel price hike in November; steps by the government to fight malaria; warnings that 3 of Bali’s 4 fresh water lakes are now badly polluted; newsthat the panoramic views of Lake Batur are disappearing behind a wall of illegal structures; and officials want to increase a conservation cum entrance fee to Nusa Penida by 1,007%.
The Bali Bird Park is celebrating its 19th anniversary with special admission rates. Bali’s deputy-governor wants to see more Balinese language signs at the Island’s airport and other attractions. And, weather forecasters predict the rains will come to Bali late this year, sometime during the month of November.
Hotel news: favehotel Sunset Seminyak has opened, while a group of tourism intellectuals warn (again) of what Bali will suffer due to the uncontrolled building of new hotels.
Aviation news: Garuda Indonesia has started daily flights between Denpasar and Dili. A Malaysian Airline flight made an emergency diversion to Bali while flying to Brisbane when one of its passengers suddenly went into labor.
