Australian Development Millions Lost To Crime, Corruption











AUSTRALIA'S $4.5 billion foreign aid program is beset by fraud worth millions of dollars, according to documents revealed under Freedom of Information laws. The papers reveal corrupt officials and overseas aid agencies are misusing millions of dollars of taxpayers' money, with AusAID investigating 175 cases in 27 countries.
The documents published by News Limited papers show a trail of widespread theft of money, forgery and supplies being diverted to the black market. The documents also show local police are often reluctant to intervene.
