Indonesia and Papua New Guinea have agreed to keep their border closed following various shootings at the area of PT Freeport Indonesia in Papua's Timika. The border closing has been adopted since Indonesia's presidential election on July 8, 2009 given growing incidents ahead and after the event.
The series of security distortion in Freeport was started by burning of employees' bus and the company's security post at mile 53, killing Drew Nicholas Grant (38) from Australia.
The following day, a security guard named Markus Rante Allo was also killed by shots at mile 51. The latest incident was on July 13 when the body of internal affairs police officer of Papua regional police Vice Brigadier Marson Fredy Pettipelohi was found with severe wounds in his neck at mile 64.
