Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's declared wealth has more than doubled in her eight years in office, faster in percentage terms than any of the three presidents who preceded her, according to an exhaustive study of her finances by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism.
Arroyo's immediate predecessor, Joseph Estrada, was overthrown and tried for plunder and perjury after the center exposed the unexplained wealth he, his mistresses and children had accumulated.
