First the hard news of the week: A sensational murder trial in the death of a Balinese journalist started last week in Bali. Japanese diplomats express sincere thanks in the arrest of a man who has confessed to killing a Japanese female tourist. More Rabies deaths in Bali as, for the second time, the main hospital runs out of anti-rabies serum. The Ramada Resort Camakila is threatened with action by Bali’s licensing authorities. And, in a related story, businesses closed in recent licensing crackdown cry "foul" and "selective enforcement."
Bali is warned to expect regular blackouts through early December as repairs are underway at the Gilimanuk Power Station. Our editorial offers a suggestion on how we might creatively overcome the looming power crisis. In other new, the Governor calls on the owners of the Sari Club to donate their land to the proposed peace park project; Bali police urge small hotels to earn security certifications; and work begins in January on US$15 million in renovations on Bali’s airport.
