Welcome to June – hard to believe we’re almost half way through 2015!

Leading the news this week: Kuta community members call for closure of the Sky Garden nightspot. Immigration authorities, meanwhile, are promising to check the large number of expatriates said to be working at the Sky Garden. A 41-year-old woman has died in Negara following a dog bite. Police have arrested a man trying to smuggle sharks’ fins from Java to Bali. And, Bali’s Governor is bitterly disappointed that Bali has lost its chance to build a yacht marina, blaming Denpasar for dropping the ball.

ForBALI and Bali’s anti-reclamation movement has won recognition from Rolling Stone Magazine.

Ku De Ta in Singapore has been told by the Singapore High Court to stop using the trademark of the Ku De Ta in Bali.

In other news: A spa trainee in Bali undergoing training in bikini waxing has screamed “ouch” and filed a criminal complaint with Sanur police. The new power plant at Celukan Bawang in North Bali is now on line, providing electricity to the Bali-Java power grid. National lawmakers are calling for the closure of Bali’s Kerobokan Prison and its removal to Nusa Penida Island. And, Craig Carter’s sailing yacht “Indian” was the first to cross the finish line in the Fremantle to Bali Yacht Race.

The PATA Bali and Nusa Tenggara Chapter has taken initial steps reawaken after years of organizational dormancy. Bali is taking steps to crack down on unlicensed travel agents. Governor Pastika wants Bali’s aging artists to receive larger pension payments.

Hotel News: The Four Seasons Resort at Sayan opens a French bistro concept on the banks of Ubud’s Ayung River. The Sun Royal Bali on Sunset Road is rebranding under the ‘7 Days Premium Kuta Bali” banner. André Kretschmann now heads GHM’s The Legian Bali. Harald Gutzy is now in charge ay Ubud’s Hanging Garden. And a Chinese tourist has died after an evening swim in a South Bali hotel.

Garuda Indonesia has unveiled plans to operate 1.6 million seats over the Idul Fitri peak travel period in July.

Visitors to Bali’s north shore are visiting the Banjar Hot Springs in increasing numbers.
