Meanwhile, we assess the impact of the tragedy on Bali's Japanese tourist arrivals and exports to that country. Less concern, however, is exhibited at the national level where the Minister of Culture and Tourism sees no need to adjust 2011 arrival targets, insisting that any resulting downturn in business will be temporary.
In local Bali news: Electrical official remain baffled and unable to explain a widespread power outage that hit Bali on March 14th. Another death – this time a 6 year-old child, has been blamed on rabies. Bad weather and bad catches over the past three months are keeping fisherman ashore in Bali. And, the police launch a high-profile campaign to stop bribes being paid to traffic policemen.
