Bali's new zoning law is very much in the news this week. The governor is keeping his pledge to enforce the new rules, while regencies across Bali are digging in, vowing to resist the him every step of the way. The governor's office has also issued a list of some 25 homes and businesses in south Bali that they think should be torn down because of their close proximity to the sacred Uluwatu temple.

All this news has us very worried. Read an editorial examining the dangerous crossroad at which Bali now stands.

In other news, labor officials in Denpasar threaten the deportation of hundreds of unregistered illegal foreign workers. Flooding in Bali's mountain Lake District is causing hardship and dislocation for at least 20 families living on the shores of Lake Tamblingan.

I mportant discussions are underway on the future of the Bali Tourism Board.

Project directors for the new Nusa Dua toll way are seeking permission to sacrifice two hectares of protected mangrove forests.

Sony Picture Corporation says "thanks" to those in Indonesia and Bali who supported the filming of EAT, PRAY, LOVE.

In aviation news: Garuda's IPO got off to a very lackluster start this week. Meanwhile, intense discussions are underway over office space to be allocated to government agencies at the soon-to-be-renovated Bali International Airport.

In hotel news, there's another talented American chef in charge at the DAVA Restaurant at the AYANA Resort and Spa.
