Aussie Govt warns of further Bali terror threat
The Australian federal government has warned its citizens planning to travel to Bali to commemorate the Bali bombings of the possibility of fresh terrorist attacks. Next month marks eight years since the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, and the 2005 bombings that killed 26 people, including four Australians. Australia's consulate in Bali is organising commemoration services to mark the anniversaries. But the Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday reminded Australians who wish to attend the services that the terrorist threat has not passed.
"Australians planning to visit Bali to attend the commemorative services should note that the government continues to recommend that Australians reconsider their need to travel to Indonesia, including Bali, due to the very high threat of terrorist attack," DFAT said. "We continue to receive credible information that terrorists could be planning attacks in Indonesia which could take place at any time." Anyone who chooses to travel to Indonesia should avoid places likely to be targeted by terrorists, Foreign Affairs said.
People who wish to attend the services must register in advance with the consulate.
