Five Terrorists Killed in Two Dramatic Jakarta Raids
National Police have confirmed that five alleged terrorists from the Aceh group — including at least two high-value targets — were gunned down in two dramatic raids in the Greater Jakarta area on Wednesday.
As members of the elite antiterror police force attempted to move in on Maulana and two other unidentified men in Cawang in West Jakarta at midday, the trio resisted arrest.
Maulana — who was also wanted by East Kalimantan Police on weapons charges and has previously been detained under Malaysia’s Internal Security Act — fired shots at arresting officers and was gunned down along with his two companions.
Ammunition for automatic weapons, a revolver and an AK-47 were recovered from the scene.
Antiterror forces were able to use Maulana’s mobile phone to track fellow high-value terrorist target Saptono to a location in Cikampek, West Java.
Saptono — the alleged new head of the Aceh group after the death of his brother, Jaja — and another unidentified man were also gunned down after resisting arrest at 4 p.m.
Also recovered at the scene were ammunition and an M-16 weapon. Jakarta Globe
