The Armed Forces of the Philippines has also doubled the Americans' security and reinforced detachments and deployed additional quick-reaction forces in Sulu.

The Tuesday explosion, which also wounded two Filipino soldiers, was the first deadly attack on US forces deployed in Mindanao since a soldier in a restaurant was killed in 2002 by a bomb on a motorcycle parked outside.
